A PROCESS FOR CONVERTING OXYGENATES TO OLEFINS

A process for converting oxygenates to olefins comprising: a) contacting an oxygenate containing stream with a molecular sieve catalyst under oxygenate to olefins conversion conditions in a reactor to form an effluent comprising olefins; b) feeding the effluent into a quench tower; c) quenching the stream by contact with water in the quench tower; and d) contacting the stream with a hydrocarbon stream in the quench tower to remove contaminants from the stream and form a cleaned olefin containing stream.
