PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main rope tension measuring device for an elevator, which is enabled to monitor the tension of a main rope at all times and to mount a sensor part for detecting a load.SOLUTION: A main rope tension measuring device comprises: a thimble rod 7 disposed at each of the end parts of a plurality of main ropes 4; a spring receiver seat 8, through which the thimble rod 7 extends; a spring 9 extended therethrough by the thimble rod 7 and having one end contacting with the spring receiver seat 8 for supporting the main ropes 4; a spring seat 10 contacting with the other end of the spring 9 for suppressing the spring 9; a nut 11 and a lock nut 12 screwed into the thimble rod 7 and contacting the spring seat 10 for determining the telescopic extent of the spring 9; a rope socket 6 for connecting the main rope 4 and the thimble rod 7; a sensor part 13 contacting at one longitudinal end with the spring seat 10 and clamped at the other end between the sensor fixing portions attached to the side of said thimble rod 7; and a strain gauge 15 mounted on the sensor part 13 for detecting the strain amount of said sensor part.
