<p>A method for the determination of the volume of red blood cells. The red blood cells are deposited into a sample chamber whose height is such that the red blood cells touch the surfaces.
The optical density of the cells is then determinated for those areas that touch both surfaces, relating thus optical density and thickness of the red blood cell.
The cell volume is then calculated by integration over the optical densities of a cell.
The presence of reticulocytes may be determined and taken into account.
Hemoglobin concentration can also be determined.</p> |
