The invention relates to a parting agent, in particular a release agent preferably for use in the processing of plastics, in particular thermoplastics, wherein the parting agent comprises one or more polyol(s) having more than 4 hydroxyl groups as component (A) and possibly one or more additives as component (B) and is at least partially based on renewable raw materials and is biodegradable. The parting agent is a solid-free homogeneous liquid. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a parting agent and to the use of such a parting agent.
