The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing, as an active ingredient, a rice extract with high contents of antioxidant polyphenols for preventing and treating degenerative brain diseases. More specifically, extracts of super purple rice, keunnunjamibyeo, and red rice are verified to have high contents of anthocyanin and GABA, which are antioxidative polyphenols, promote protection and differentiation of nerve cells in regression-induced cells and an animal model, and significantly inhibit nerve cell death, and thus the rice extract with high contents of antioxidative polyphenols can be useful as an active ingredient in a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating degenerative brain diseases.
