<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide type optical switch which suppresses increases in manufacturing cost and loss caused by a connection between a plurality of output waveguides and a multi-core optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: A part 44 of an output side slab waveguide which has been conventionally formed by an InP waveguide and a plurality of output waveguides 45 which has been similarly formed by the InP waveguides are formed as PLC waveguides. Accordingly, an input waveguide 11, an input side slab waveguide 12, an array waveguide 13 and a part 14 of the output side slab waveguide are formed to be successively connected by the InP waveguide. An InP waveguide chip 10 and a PLC waveguide chip 40 are connected at an end face of the divided slab waveguide. The plurality of output waveguides 45 are batch-connected to a multi-core optical fiber 61 by a technique which is already put into practice. Thus, the optical switch is constituted by gathering functions which are excellent in different kinds of waveguides to improve a characteristic of the whole of the optical switch. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
