PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking additive capable of improving drainage with a relatively small amount added, that is, without causing problems of cost increase or texture deterioration of paper products.SOLUTION: A papermaking additive contains: a cationic polymer obtained by polymerization of a cationic vinyl monomer represented by the general formula (I) in the figure, a nonionic vinyl monomer, and a crosslinkable vinyl monomer; and 0.01 to 10 mol% of carboxylic acids having two or more carboxyl groups in each molecule. (In the formula, Ris H or CH, A is O or NH, Ris an optionally hydroxyl group-substituted alkyl group having 2-4 carbon atoms, Ris H or an alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms, Ris H, an optionally hydroxyl group-substituted alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms or a benzyl group, and Xis a halogen ion, a sulfonate ion, a methyl sulfate ion or a hydroxide ion.)
|
