The invention concerns a protective mesh, in particular for securing slopes, which is laid on an earth surface (12) and secured thereon by a number of mutually spaced-apart securing means (20). These securing means comprise longitudinal elements (15) anchored in the ground and spike plates (25) which can be laid on the protective mesh (10). These spike plates (25) are dimensioned and designed such that the number of securing means (20) per unit of area can be reduced and the rigidity of the laid-on protective mesh (10) increased.
