A device for identification of filter holders (4, 13) of an espresso coffee machine, comprises: supporters (3, 17, 18) on which the filter holders to be identified are detachably placed; and at least one thermopile radiation sensor (6, 6a) having a plurality of heat radiation-sensitive elements, optical apparatuses (8, 8a) that focus radiation on the sensitive elements, and a circuit means which receives electric signals transmitted by the sensitive elements and processes a corresponding output signal. The radiation sensors (6, 6a) are placed on positions relative to the supports (3, 17, 18) for the filter holders to be identified such that at least one portion thereof (10, 11, 15), when the filter holders are placed on the supporters, is arranged within the range of view (9, 9a) of the optical apparatuses (8, 8a) of the sensors, whereby the circuit means can determine a signal representative of the radiation of filter holder portions detected by the optical apparatuses of the sensors. According to the invention, the filter holder portions that are identified by the radiation sensors are a beverage dispensing spout portion of the filter holders. |
