The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating prostate hyperplasia, wherein a Cistanche deserticola (CS) extract is contained as an active ingredient. In particular, it has been confirmed that in a mouse in which a CS extract is administrated and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is induced, a prostate weight, a ratio of a prostate weight to a body weight, and a relative prostate weight ratio are decreased, a BPH controlling rate is increased, and a blood dihydrotestosterone (DHT) concentration by BPH and an increase in the expression of a 5 alpha-reductase type 2 and a proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) are controlled. The CS extract can be usefully used as an active ingredient for the pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating prostate hyperplasia. |
