A self-locking nut comprises a screwed body 4, Fig. 5, with an annular groove 3 in one end face, the mean diameter of the groove mouth being either greater or less than that at the groove bottom. A sleeve 1 has one end doubled over and pressed into the groove, and the other end is turned in to contain a ring 5 of resilient material, e.g. nylon or fibre. Rotation of the sleeve in the groove may be prevented by indentations 8, Fig. 6. Tongues 2 prevent turning of the ring 5. In a modification, the tongues 2 are omitted and the end of the sleeve in the groove is bent outwardly. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 851,811. |
