The present invention relates to a novel tetranuclear arene-ruthenium compound, and a pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing cancer containing the same as an active component. The novel tetranuclear arene-ruthenium compound inhibits a proliferation of HCT-15 and AGS in a low micromole concentration, and inhibits an activation of cancer cells through apoptosis which controls a cell growth cycle. Therefore, the compound represents an excellent anti-cancer activation in multiple resistance cancer disease, and can be effectively used for prevention and treatment of cancer diseases.
