<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a physical quantity measuring instrument for a gear transmission device having a structure capable of measuring a direction and magnitude of torque transmitted by the gear transmission device by measuring a displacement direction and a displacement quantity of a gear 4a constituting the gear transmission device. <P>SOLUTION: In a physical quantity measuring device for a gear transmission device, detector units for a pair of sensors 7a and 7b are placed facing each other in a radial direction and an axial direction respectively with respect to teeth 5a formed on an outer end face of a helical gear 4a engaged with another gear. The gear 4a is axially displaced with transmission of torque. A phase difference that is present between output signals of the sensors 7a and 7b varies according to the direction and magnitude of the torque transmitted by the gear transmission mechanism.
