摘要 An apparatus and method use a hybrid absorbing element defined by a novel implementation of perfectly matched layer and infinite element concepts to model time-domain and frequency domain wave propagation finite element calculations. The hybrid absorbing element comprises three or more semi-infinite facets providing an essentially reflectionless interface for outgoing waves. Perfectly matched layer conditions are coupled to finite-element wavefield computation regions and infinite element conditions, which effectively disperse advancing waves at infinity. The disclosed apparatus and method result in the rapid attenuation of waves arriving at arbitrary angles, leading to elimination of reflection artifacts. The hybrid absorbing element modeling approach reduces memory usage and related computational costs, especially when applied to large three-dimensional models and simulations and to large-scale simulations on massively parallel computing structures, cloud resources, or similar clustered or distributed compute and storage resources. The hybrid absorbing element can use a lumped, diagonal inertial operator for compatibility with explicit time-domain computations.

An apparatus for modeling infinite exteriors for wave field phenomena associated with a body within a spatial region wherein said body is subjected to driving conditions, said modeling based upon the finite element method, the apparatus comprising: a. a hybrid absorbing element model; b. a processor; c. electronic data storage, said processor having access to said electronic data storage; d. a user interface for accessing said processor and said electronic data storage; and e. said processor orchestrating functionality of modules to generate an ultimate solution, said modules including: i. a hybrid absorbing element module, said hybrid absorbing element module driving a hybrid element shape function definition process to support one or more subsequent interpolation functions wherein element shapes are defined in two and three spatial dimensions;ii. a decay function module, said decay function module for applying and driving decay functions to specify a perfectly matched layer-like function governing the rate of decay of a wave field inside a hybrid infinite element domain;iii. a mapping module, said mapping module driving a mapping process wherein a coordinate map is associated with said hybrid absorbing element model;iv. a derivation module, said derivation module driving the definition of one or more element equations;v. a mass matrix module, said mass matrix module including functions to support computation of each element; andvi. a compute element module.
