<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display device based on a lateral electric field approach that is capable of effectively preventing liquid crystal molecular reverse rotation. <P>SOLUTION: The active matrix type liquid crystal display device based on the lateral electric field approach displays by rotating a molecular axis of a liquid crystal layer in a plane in parallel to a first substrate by an electric field which is applied between a pixel electrode and a common electrode and is approximately in parallel to the surface of the first substrate. In order to prevent the reverse rotation of the molecular axis of the liquid crystal layer in a display region in which the pixel electrode and the common electrode are formed in comb-shapes and are formed in parallel to each other, a terminal part of the pixel electrode is broadened in a step-like shape at one side, a spacing between the pixel electrode and the facing common electrode is narrowed in vicinity of the terminal part, a part of or entire the terminal part of the pixel electrode broadened in the step-like shape overlaps with a common signal line, and an edge of a part having step-like changing width at the terminal part of the pixel electrode is configured to be in parallel to an edge of the common signal line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
