985,468. Moulding particulate material. SOC. GENERALE DES EAUX MINERALES DE VITTEL. May 17, 1963 [June 13, 1962], No. 19761/63. Heading B5A. Moulded articles are made from an agglomerate of non-freely-flowing particulate material coated or impregnated with a thermosetting binder and having a moisture content of 8-15% by weight in a two-stage compression moulding process. The first-stage pressure is effected at a temperature below the temperuture at which the binder sets, the surface of the product is then wetted with water and the second stage pressure is applied at a temperature above that at which the binder sets. The binder base may be a thermosetting resin, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde and an emulsion of pitch in paraffin and the particulate material may be wood shavings, chippings or sawdust, cereal chaff, straw, reeds, rag waste or waste paper. The second compression stage is interrupted by a five-seconds release of compression to allow " breathing." |
