摘要 One or more storage systems are connected to one or more storage boxes comprising multiple storage devices. Multiple storage areas provided by one or more storage boxes include an allocated area, which is a storage area that is allocated to a virtual volume, and an empty area, which is a storage area that is not allocated to any logical volume. Multiple owner rights corresponding to multiple storage areas are set in one or more storage systems. A storage system having an empty area owner right changes an empty area to the allocated area by allocating the empty area. In a case where a configuration change (a relative change in the number of storage boxes with respect to the number of storage systems) is performed, a first storage system that exists after the configuration change sets, in the first storage system, either more or fewer owner rights than the owner rights, which have been allocated to the first storage system before the configuration change.

A compound storage system, comprising: one or more storage boxes, which comprise multiple storage devices; and one or more storage systems, which are connected to the one or more storage boxes, receive from a host apparatus an I/O (Input/Output) command specifying a logical volume as an I/O destination, and process the I/O command, wherein each of the one or more storage boxes is a box comprising two or more storage devices, which provide two or more storage areas, multiple storage areas provided by the one or more storage boxes include an allocated area, which is a storage area that is allocated to any logical volume of the one or more storage systems, and an empty area, which is a storage area that is not allocated to any logical volume of the one or more storage systems, multiple owner rights, which correspond to the multiple storage areas, are set in the one or more storage systems, one owner right is allocated to one storage system, a storage system, of the one or more storage systems, which is allocated with the owner right of an I/O area that is the allocated area related to the I/O destination, is able either to read I/O-target data conforming to the I/O command from the I/O area, or to write the I/O-target data to the I/O area as the processing of the I/O command, a storage system, of the one or more storage systems, which comprises the owner right of the empty area, is able to change the empty area to the allocated area by allocating the empty area, and in a case where there occurs a configuration change, which is a relative changing of the number of the storage boxes with respect to the number of the storage systems, a target storage system which is the storage system that exists after the configuration change sets, in the target storage system, owner rights which are either more or fewer than the owner rights allocated to the target storage system prior to the configuration change.
