[Also in Groups XVII and XXX] Thermoplastic covers are welded to the rims of thermoplastic containers 3 supported in plates 7 of a conveyer 11 by a continuous moving metal member 1, against which the containers and covers are resiliently pressed, which is first heated at 4 to perform the welding and then cooled at 5 to set the weld. In Figs. 1 and 3 the member 1 is a metal-band moving at the same speed as the conveyer. The upper run of a chain conveyer 11, carrying thesupportplates 7, passes over resiliently mounted fibre rails 8 which force the plates 7 towards the band. In a modification, Fig. 4, the band 1 is replaced by a conveyer 14 carrying metal welding rings 15 which are heated by a heater 4 beneath the upper run of the conveyer and cooled by a cooler 5 above the lower run, the welding taking place in the short interval before the rings 14 on the lower run pass beneath the cooler 4. The heaters are heated electrically. |
