An apparatus for controlling the flow of articles includes an infeed conveyer (A) and an outfeed conveyer (B) spaced apart from the infeed conveyer (A) to define a space (20) therebetween. A moveable transport member (D) is disposed across and movable along the space. The transport member includes a rotatable member (E) drivingly engaged by the infeed (A) and outfeed (B) conveyers so as to rotate as either of the infeed (A) or outfeed (B) conveyers move. The transport member (D) travels along the space (20) if a relative speed difference exists between the infeed (A) and the outfeed (B) conveyers. An article transfer member (H) is carried by the transport member (D) and is disposed between the infeed (A) and the outfeed (B) conveyers to transfer articles between the conveyers as the rotatable member (E) rotates.
