A process of producing a design on the surface of the cavity of an injection mould consists in roughening the surface by etching, engraving the design on a flat metal plate, filling the depressions in the plate with an acid resist, transferring the resist to a sheet of tissue, placing the tissue with the resist against the roughened surface, wetting the tissue with an aqueous solution, removing the tissue, leaving the resist on the surface, etching the uncovered parts of the surface to leave the reversed design in relief, removing the resist, and etching the surface to round off the corners of the design. The design may simulate leather. The resist may be a waxy bituminous material. The solution may be alcohol and water.
