Octadiene -1,7 is obtained by isomerizing cyclooctene at 450 DEG -700 DEG C. The conversion may be effected for 1-30 seconds, preferably at atmospheric pressure, and if desired in the presence of 2-300% by weight, based on cyclooctene, of a diluent such as water, nitrogen, helium or argon.
