A recording/reproducing apparatus is disclosed that includes a spindle motor unit (501) including a spindle (502) on which a flexible recording disk (500) is placed, a stabilizer plate (507) disposed so as to face the recording disk (500), a torque detection unit (506) configured to detect a drive torque applied to the spindle motor unit (501), an adjustment unit (601) configured to adjust a gap between the recording disk (500) and the stabilizer plate (507), and a determination unit (604) configured to determine an optimal gap to be set to the gap based on the drive torque detected by the torque detection unit (506), in which the adjustment unit (601) sets the optimum gap determined by the determination unit (604) to the gap.
