The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling a monitoring area of a light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and a method therefor, and provides the apparatus for controlling the monitoring area of the LiDAR and the method therefor, which are capable of improving a surveillance ability by adjusting a surveillance area of the LiDAR mounted in a vehicle according to the type of road after determining the type of road on which the vehicle is being driven. For the foregoing, the apparatus for controlling the monitoring area of the LiDAR comprises: a storage for storing a viewing angel and an Irradiation angle of the LiDAR according to the type of road; a road determining part for determining the type of road on which the vehicle is being driven; a controller for retrieving, in the storage, the viewing angel and the irradiation angle according to the type of road determined by the road determining part; and a viewing angel adjusting part for setting the viewing angel retrieved by the controller as a reference viewing angle; and an irradiation angle adjusting part for setting the irradiation angle retrieved by the controller as a reference irradiation angle. |
