The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for upgrading the operating system of an electronic device equipped with operating system (OS), enabling the upgrade of OS with strengthened security without removing user data. The method according to an embodiment includes: a process of perceiving the start of OS upgrade; creating labeling information for user data; and re-labeling the user data based on labeling information. The present invention also has other implementation examples based on the example in previous steps.
