A method of laying lined pipeline which actively removes air pockets 17 trapped in the annulus 15 between the liner 13 and the host pipe 12 comprises lowering the lined pipe to the seabed while keeping a lower end of the pipeline closed. The lower end is subsequently opened to progressively flood the lined pipeline. The liner 13 is thus brought into closer contact and engagement with the host pipe 12. The pipe laying process can continue while the lower end of the pipeline is open. The pipe can be laid from a reel lay vessel, with the pipeline deployed from a reel, or from an S-lay or J-lay vessel, with the pipe constructed length by length. Electrofusion fittings or butt fusion welds can be used to join respective liners 13 of pipe lengths. |
