A porous glass ion-exchange membrane resistant to radiation damage and deterioration comprises alumina-silicate powder particles compressed with and incipiently fused with low melting-point glass particles, i.e. glass particles having a melting-point below that of the alumina-silicate particles.ALSO:An electrodialysis process for removing radio-active waste material is characterized by passing said solution through a porous inorganic ion-exchange membrane comprising alumina-silicate ion-exchange powder particles compressed with and incipiently fused with low melting point glass particles, i.e. glass particles having a melting-point below the melting-point of the alumina-silicate particles. An example illustrates the separation of caesium-137 from aqueous nitric acid solution. |
