Polyaddition compounds are prepared by reacting high molecular weight compounds having reactive hydrogen atoms with an adduct of a bisketene with pyridine and/or a derivative of pyridine. From 50 to 1% of the adduct may be used. Specified reactive hydrogen containing compounds are polyethers from ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, tetrahydrofurane polymers, polythioethers from thioglycol and glycol with hydroxyl terminal groups, polyformaldehyde, polyacrolein, linear polyesters from saturated and/or unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, e.g. adipic, phthalic, tetrahydrophthalic, tetrachlorophthalic, hexachloroendomethylene - tetrahydrophthalic, fumaric and maleic acids and anhydrides and diols, e.g. ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propanediol and epoxides, or from dicarboxylic acids and diols or polyols such as trimethylolpropane, glycerin and pentaerythritol, polymers and copolymers having carboxylic groups from acrylic or fumaric acids, copolymers of endomethylene tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol, partially or completely saponified homopolymers or copolymers of vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene carbonate, saponified maleic anhydride/olefin copolymer, copolymers from the hydrolysis of vinyl phthalimide and disubstituted acid amides as well as polymerizable monomer solvents, e.g. styrene, methyl methacrylate and dialkyl phthalate in which case a polymerization catalyst, e.g. organic peroxides and/or azobis-isobutyronitrile is also present. Solvents and diluents, e.g. liquid hydrocarbons, chlorohydrocarbons, ketones, ethers and esters, may be present or absent as may dyes, fillers, stabilizers, extenders, elastifiers, foam-forming substances and fire-proofing materials. In Examples (1) polyethylene oxide of molecular weight 1000 is heated at 70 DEG C. with 0.1 mole of cyclohexane-bisketene-pyridine adduct, (2) the reaction product of polyvinyl-idene carbonate and lauryloxy-propylamine containing the grouping. <FORM:1025693/C3/1> is dissolved in methyl ethyl ketone and heated with xylylene-bis-methylketene-quinoline adduct. |
