<p>A method of controlling an electrical power supply to a load 214, such as an AC motor for a water pump or a compressor, wherein said load has an associated power threshold, comprises using a first, renewable, electrical power source, such as a photovoltaic source 202, to generate a first amount of power for supply to the load, and determining whether to supply a second amount of power to the load from a second, different electrical power source, such as AC grid 204, for example in the event of a shortfall in the first amount of generated power. If it is determined that the second electrical power source should be used to supply power to the load, an output of the second electrical power source is controlled so that a combined amount of power supplied to the load from the first and second electrical power sources meets the power threshold associated with the load.</p> |
