Provided is an endoscope system including: a light source apparatus (3) including LEDs (23r, 23 g, 23b) of a plurality of colors and a color sensor (27) that detects a failure in the LEDs; a scope (2) that irradiates a subject with illuminating light generated by the light source apparatus (3) and takes in an optical image of the subject; a CCD (13) that picks up an image of the optical image of the subject; a video processor (4) that processes the image picked up by the CCD (13); and a monitor (5) that displays an image processed by the video processor (4), wherein if a failure of any of the LEDs is detected by the color sensor (27), the video processor (4) switches image processing to image processing according to light emission of only the LED for which the failure is not detected, the image processing being different from that when the failure of the LED is not detected.
