A light scanning unit and an image forming apparatus employing the same. The light scanning unit deflects light in a main scanning direction, irradiates the light on a photoconductive drum, and includes a beam detecting sensor to detect a horizontal synchronization signal by receiving a part of the light beam reflected and scanned by a beam deflector, and leads of terminals of the beam detecting sensor are not exposed to the light beam to be scanned.

1. A light scanning unit comprising:
a light source to emit a light beam; a beam deflector to scan the light beam emitted from the light source in a main scanning direction; a beam detecting sensor including a light-receiving portion to receive a portion of the light beam scanned by the beam deflector and terminals; and a circuit board including a through-hole formed in the circuit board and configured to prevent the portion of the light beam from being incident on the terminals of the beam detecting sensor, wherein the beam detecting sensor is mounted on the circuit board, and the portion of the light beam is incident on the light-receiving portion of the beam detecting sensor through the through-hole.
