[Also in Division F2] A digital data recorder comprises a rotatable disc 64 driven by a stalling electric motor 48 under the control of an escapement 34 arranged alternately to restrain and permit transmission of the drive, the escapement being operated according to the receipt of pulses corresponding to units of a variable to be recorded. The pulses are applied alternately to solenoids 8,9 to oscillate their common core 16 and consequently to rock a lever 21. The lever 21 in turn rocks escapement arms 23, 24 which alternate in releasing a stud 33 projecting from the escapement wheel 34 and in arresting it after 180 degrees rotation. Each half turn of the shaft 35 causes eccentric ball races therein, in co-operation with outer races 75,76 embraced by forked ends of push bars 60, to actuate a pawl 62 to advance the disc 64 one radial position. At regular intervals of time a synchronous drivemotor advances a record sheet and initiates recording by releasing stored energy to actuate punches. If a pulse is received in this recording interval the shaft 35 turns through 60 degrees before it is arrested by a bar 319 pressed upwards by a spring 325 into the path of detents 328, 329, since the wheel 34 has been released by the escapement arms, the pulse is in effect stored. The top dead centre of the eccentric races is offset 30 degrees from the rest position so that the 60 degree rotation causes a slight advance and retraction of the disc 64 and does not alter its position enough to affect the selection of punches. After punching cam 313 and reset lever 308 free the pawls 62 from the disc 64 which is restored to zero, thereafter the bar 319 is withdrawn, the pawls 62 become operative and the stored pulse advances the disc 64.</p> |
