A valve comprises a valve closure member in the form of a hollow cylinder which is guided in a passageway in axial alignment with an inlet passage, the valve closure being movable axial into and out of seating or overlapping engagement with the end of the inlet passage. The interior of the valve member is in constant communication with the inlet and when the valve opens, part of the fluid flows into the cylinder, undergoes a change in direction of substantially 180 degrees and flows into the outlet at an angle to the direction of movement of the valve closure while part of the fluid flows direct to the outlet. In Fig. 3, the valve closure member 3 enters the inlet 4 to close the valve and the open sides of the valve member are tapered. The upper end of the valve member may be closed or may be provided with a port 1 allowing flow through the valve. In Fig. 4, the valve member 16 overlaps the inlet passage 17. In a modification, the inside of the inlet passage and the outside of the closure member are tapered. In a further modification, a valve member similar to 16 moves into the inlet passage and the fluid flows to a groove which alters the flow forces.</p> |
