The present invention relates to a refrigerator and a control method thereof. The refrigerator of the present invention comprises: a refrigerator main body having a storeroom; a vegetable chamber installed inside the storeroom and having an enclosed inner space; a vacuum pump absorbing and discharging inside air of the vegetable chamber; a pressure switch detecting the pressure inside the vegetable chamber; and a control unit monitoring a signal of the pressure switch and a current of the vacuum pump and controlling the vacuum pump based on the results. Therefore, a sealed state of the vegetable chamber can be confirmed by monitoring the current of the vacuum pump. Moreover, the present invention is capable of stopping an unnecessary operation of the vacuum pump and preventing a life cycle of the vacuum pump from being shortened due to the unnecessary operation. |
