The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for cooling a converter in a vehicle, capable of protecting a fan motor from electric leakage and flooding by separating the fan motor and a cooling fan for cooling a convertor for a car. The apparatus may include a convertor case, a cooling fan arranged on the outside of the convertor case, a fan motor which is arranged on the inside of the convertor case and drives a cooling fan, a convertor module which is arranged on the inside of the convertor case, and a heat radiation pin which is arranged on the outside of the convertor case and discharges heat generated from a convertor module. Here, the apparatus further includes a temperature sensor which is located on the inside of the convertor case and senses the internal temperature of the convertor case. The present temperature sensed from the temperature sensor is compared with a reference temperature. If the present temperature is higher than the reference temperature, the fan motor is driven. If the present temperature is lower than the reference temperature, a control module of controlling the fan motor is further provided to stop the fan motor. |
