The present invention relates to a method for preparing polymannuronate derived from alginate in brown algae and a composition for a diet food using the same and, more specifically, to a method for preparing polymannuronate which is low molecular weight alginate by extracting alginate from a by-product of brown algae generated in producing sea mustard, kelp, etc. and then processing an alginate breakdown enzyme and to a composition for a diet food using the same.
