The friction stir welding system (46) comprises a welding unit (48) including a welding device (54) with a welding head that includes and a rotating pin. A counter-bearing unit (50) includes a support surface (80) for supporting to-be assembled parts against a pressure exerted by the welding head, where the welding head is moved in a first direction parallel to a rotational axis of the rotating pin relative to the support surface of the counter-bearing unit, and moved in a second direction which is orthogonal to the rotational axis of the rotating pin. The friction stir welding system (46) comprises a welding unit (48) including a welding device (54) with a welding head that includes a rotating pin. The counter-bearing unit includes a displacement unit for moving the support surface along the second direction. The counter-bearing unit includes two clamp rollers set apart from each other and which have a common axis of revolution which is orthogonal to the first direction and orthogonal to the second direction, where each of the clamp rollers has a main circumferential track which forms a part of the support surface. The counter-bearing unit moves the clamp rollers towards each other. Each of the clamp rollers has a circumferential shoulder protruding radially towards the exterior which delimits a lateral extremity of the main circumferential track of the clamp roller on the side opposite the other clamp roller. Each of the clamp rollers has a secondary circumferential track that is connected to the main circumferential track of the clamp roller through the circumferential shoulder. An independent claim is included for a friction stir welding process for linear welding of two parts using a welding system. |
