A resuscitation device comprises a tubular head member 1 having connections 2, 5 for a face mask 3 and self-distending reservoir 4, and also additional openings 7 which may be sealed off by a check valve 9 which closes against a seating 10 at any pressure greater than that produced by normal exhalation. With this device the bag may be repeatedly squeezed to induce respiration and, on each occasion, the internal pressure closes the valve 9 and air is forced into the lungs. On natural exhalation, the initial dead-space air may pass into the bag 4 but thereafter exhaled air passes out through the orifices 7. An additional inlet 12 for oxygen may also be provided. |
