<p>An objective of the present invention is to register biometric information which is acquired from a user at time of authentication, to improve authentication precision in subsequent instances and achieve high precision in such a circumstance even when a portion of already registered biometric information contains a significant error. A plurality of biometric information which is acquired from a user in a past authentication and a degree of reliability of each instance of the biometric information which is evaluated on the basis of a degree of similarity between the instances of biometric information are retained. When authenticating the user, a degree of similarity between the user's biometric information and the plurality of registered instances of biometric information is computed. An identity likelihood which denotes a likelihood of the user being identified is computed on the basis of the degree of similarity and the degree of reliability corresponding to each instance of the registered biometric information. Highly precise authentication is achieved by assessing whether the user is identified by whether the identity likelihood exceeds a prescribed threshold. If it is assessed that the user is identified, the biometric information which is acquired from the user is added to the registration as an instance of the registered biometric information and employed in successive authentications.</p> |
