A multi-terminal DC power system (10, 10', 10") includes: a DC network (N) connecting together multiple terminals (T1, T2,..., Tn). Each terminal is represented by one of: a voltage source converter (VSC) having a capacitor (C) at an interface to the DC network, wherein a difference between a converter-side current (iC) and a network-side current (iN) charges the capacitor, and a current source converter (CSC) having an inductor (L) at an interface to the DC network, wherein a difference between a converter-side voltage (vC) and a network-side voltage (vN) drives current through the inductor. A local controller (12, 12') for each terminal directly controls the converter-side current (iC) of each voltage source controller and the converter-side voltage (vC) of each current source converter, independent of other terminals, leaving network-side currents and voltages to be determined by the network, resulting in simplified terminal control and avoidance of the need for high-speed communication among all terminals at all times. |
