The present invention relates to an adaptive real-time transcoding method, and a streaming server for the same whereby service quality is increased by adapting a setting value of transcoding calculation on a media streaming service to a network environment in order to minimize undesired video jumps in a video in an environment such as a mobile device. By the adaptive real-time transcoding method, data segments of media data which are segmented and transcoded in the streaming server are sequentially transmitted to a client terminal through a network. The adaptive real-time transcoding method includes the steps of: determining a degree of play-back buffer filling; determining image quality of the media data segments, which have not been transmitted to the client terminal, based on the degree of play-back buffer filling; and transcoding the media data segments, which have not been transmitted, according to the determined image quality. |
