A vehicle axle casing 10 has integral bearing supports 17a, 18a for a differential body 16 supporting axle shafts 23, 24, a transverse opening 25 in the casing being large enough to allow oblique removal of the differential body 16, crown wheel 15 and axle shaft 23. The axle shaft 24 may be a stub shaft connected to a further axle shaft and the bevel pinion 14 may be mounted in bearings in housings 11a, 12a integral with the casing 10. The bearing housings 11a, 12a may be within a housing 10a supported from the casing 10 by radial ribs 29, the casing being in light alloy. |
