摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate stable electric discharge for detecting position coordinates and to accurately detect the position coordinates of a light pen even when a panel has a large screen and is a high-definition panel.SOLUTION: A driving method of a plasma display panel comprises the steps of: constituting 1 field period with a plurality of subfields including image display subfields SF1 through SF8 and an x coordinate detection subfield SFx; individually providing the x coordinate detection subfield SFx and the image display subfields SF1 through SF8 with initialization periods when applying a downwardly inclined voltage to scanning electrodes and applying a voltage to sustaining electrodes and data electrodes such that the voltage does not exceed a discharge start voltage among the sustaining electrodes and the scanning electrodes and exceeds a discharge start voltage among the data electrodes and the scanning electrodes; and setting an attainment voltage Va of the downwardly inclined voltage applied to the scanning electrodes in an initialization period Pic of the x coordinate detection subfield SFx to the voltage less than an attainment voltage Vi4 of the downwardly inclined voltage applied to the scanning electrodes in an initialization period Pib of the image display subfields SF1 through SF8.</p>
