<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of electrostatically and favorably removing a residual toner generating on an image carrier by use of a cleaning member even when a transfer process is carried out in such a layout that a toner image on the image carrier is protruding from a transfer material. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 includes: an image carrier 6; transfer means 8; a cleaning member 11; cleaning voltage applying means 12; protrusion occurrence determining means 111, which determines the presence or absence of a residual toner in a protrusion region on the image carrier 6, the protrusion region protruding from a transfer material P in a transfer section; and control means, which functions, if generation of a residual toner in the protrusion region is determined, to apply a cleaning voltage in the same polarity as the charged polarity of the toner that forms a toner image to the cleaning member 11 when a transfer voltage is higher than a predetermined value, and to apply a cleaning voltage in the opposite polarity to the charged polarity of the toner that forms a toner image to the cleaning member 11 when the transfer voltage is equal to or lower than the predetermined value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
