<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having high luminous efficiency, a low driving voltage, excellent thermal resistance and raw stock preservability, and a long life. <P>SOLUTION: The organic EL element in which a plurality of constituent layers including luminescent layers are held between an anode and a cathode has an electron transport layer containing at least one compound expressed by general formula (1).
