Provided is a positive electrode active material of a lithium ion battery, wherein the chemical formula thereof is Li[(Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)1-xMox]O2, with 0<x≤0.05. The preparation method for the positive electrode active material of a lithium ion battery comprises the following steps: providing a source solution of Li, a source solution of +2 valent Ni, a source solution of +2 valent Co, a source solution of +2 valent Mn, and a source solution of +6 valent Mo; adding the source solution of Li, the source solution of +2 valent Ni, the source solution of +2 valent Co, the source solution of +2 valent Mn, and the source solution of +6 valent Mo at a stoichiometric ratio into a polycarboxyl acid solution, stirring and mixing the solution to form a sol solution; heating the sol solution at a temperature of 50-80°C to form a wet gel; spray drying the wet gel to obtain a dry gel; and heating the dry gel successively at a first temperature and a second temperature, with the first temperature being 400-500°C and the second temperature being 750-850°C. |
