Disclosed are a method and corresponding device for evaluating a search prompting system, the method comprising: randomly extracting one or more appropriate evaluation words according to an evaluation target; sequentially acquiring the minimum number of input words covered by each evaluation word; calculating to obtain a corresponding coverage efficiency factor and a prompt efficiency factor according to the minimum number of input words covered by each evaluation word, and calculating to obtain the coverage of each evaluation word according to the coverage efficiency factor and the prompt efficiency factor; and conducting weighted average calculation on the coverage of each evaluation word to obtain the coverage of the evaluation target. When calculating the prompt coverage of an evaluation word, the present invention introduces a coverage efficiency factor and a prompt efficiency factor, thus comprehensively quantifying and refining the performance evaluation of a search prompting system. The performance evaluation results more accurately reflect the problems in the search prompting system, so a developer can make specific adjustments, thus further improving the search prompting efficiency of the search prompting system.
