A method comprising: warming up an exhaust aftertreatment system component in an exhaust system connected to an internal combustion engine above a warmed-up temperature threshold indicating completion of a warm-up mode of operation of the internal combustion engine connected to the exhaust system; initiating a stay warm operating mode to maintain the exhaust aftertreatment system component above a stay warm temperature threshold providing a desired performance of the aftertreatment system component, wherein initiating the stay warm operating mode includes: determining the warm-up mode of operation is complete;determining a temperature drop of the exhaust aftertreatment component below the stay warm temperature threshold; and dosing hydrocarbons for receipt into the exhaust system upstream of an oxidation catalyst in response to initiating the stay warm operating mode to warm the exhaust aftertreatment system component to a target temperature.
