PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure increasing device in which a required downstream side pressure can be attained in short time when a downstream side pressure is equal to or less than an upstream side pressure at a starting-up time after long-term stopping and the like, and further consumption power of a compressor can be reduced.SOLUTION: The pressure increasing device comprises: a compressor 3 for sucking compression fluid and increasing pressure; a first pressure detecting part 2 for detecting an upstream side pressure of the compressor; a second pressure detecting part 5 for detecting a downstream side pressure of the compressor; and a bypass pipe 6 for communicating an upstream flow passage of the compressor with a downstream flow passage of the compressor by bypassing the compressor. When the pressure detected by the first pressure detecting part is higher than the pressure detected by the second pressure detecting part, the compression fluid of the upstream side of the compressor is supplied to the downstream side of the compressor through the bypass pipe, and before the pressure detected by the first pressure detecting part becomes equal to the pressure detected by the second pressure detecting part, supplying of compression fluid through the bypass pipe is stopped and operation of the compressor is started.
