PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing unsaturated cyclic and/or aromatic compounds from cineole, whose cost decreases with the increased volume of eucalyptus oil production.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a process for producing unsaturated cyclic and/or aromatic compounds such as dipentene, p-cymene, wherein 1,8-cineole is subjected to heat decomposition in the range of temperatures of 200 to about 350°C, as shown in the following reaction formula, in the presence of a transition metal catalyst such as V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Re, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Os, Ir, Pt carried by γ-alumina. |
