PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibody α4 &bgr;7 integrin and its use to treat inflammatory bowel disease.SOLUTION: The invention provides a therapeutic method of a human with a disease associated with leukocyte infiltration of mucosal tissues containing administering the effective amount of a humanized immunoglobulin having the binding specificity against integrin α4 &bgr;7 comprising at least one portion of an antigen binding region of nonhuman origin and an antibody of human origin, or an antigen binding fragment thereof, to a human with a disease associated with leukocyte infiltration of mucosal tissues, wherein the immunoglobulin or fragment is administered succeedingly once or more after an initial administration, each minimal interval of the two doses is for at least about one day, and about 8 mg or less of the immunoglobulin or fragment per kg body weight is administered for about one month.
